Wedding registry for some is the best part of wedding planning! My mind always goes to the Sex and the City scene when Charlotte is going around with her registration gun giving Trey puppy dog eyes to register for the *expensive* China set. And for some, it is overwhelming, stressful with no idea how to start or knowing the best places to register for the wedding.
Here are some tips below to help you get going!
Take Inventory of Yourself and Your Gear
The registry should be a reflection of yourselves as a couple and what you will use. Do you love to cook? Go crazy in the cooking section. Do you use your oven as a sweater drawer? Don't register for anything besides the basics. Maybe you already have a dish set that you love or already have bedding set that you invested in, so don't register for anything you already have, love and use.
There is no time like the present
Why not register right after you get engaged? People are going to want to be buying you gifts almost immediately, so why not tell them what you want.
Go to the Store
Even if your plan is to do all of your registering online, you still should take the time and go into a store and talk to someone who specializes in the registry. They are going to let you know best practices and have tons of advice to going about starting the registry.
Pick More than One Store
Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Select 2-4 different stores to register at, and your guest will appreciate the effort. Some guest have different credit cards at various stores; some guest has an easier time getting to one store over other stores. Also, different stores have different price points that will hit all of your guests.
Get into the habit of writing a thank you note as soon as you receive the gift. Especially if the gift giver is shipping the gift directly to you, they won't even know if you received the gift. The only way they will know is if they receive a thank you note. I have even had to reach out to friends awkwardly to make sure they received something I had shipped directly to them.
Where are the best places to register for the wedding?
Bed Bath and Beyond
Bed Bath and Beyond is a great store to go into and talk to a registry specialist. It is a great store to get all of your essentials at once as well as hitting all of the price points. They are easy to work with and can ship your items directly to you.
Target has been gaining more and more registry popularity. It is convenient for all of your guests to either go into the store or shop online, whichever they prefer. So many people are in and out of target already so your guest do not have to go too much out of their way to send you a gift.
Crate and Barrel
Crate and Barrel are perfect for couples looing for good quality items at an affordable price point. Crate and Barrel is also a great store to visit before you even begin your registry journey. They even have registry gifts for the couple!
Amazon, because everyone is online now. If you have a few things that you want from many different stores, Amazon is the place to go. It is an excellent way to register for many different brands and categories of items all at one convenient place for your guest to visit. Most people also have Amazon accounts and are comfortable using it for purchases.
Zola is a relatively new idea. It markets itself as a universal registry which means you can add gifts from anywhere online. What makes it different is you can also add things like a honeymoon fund or a unique experience such as a cooking class (to use all of those new cool tools you just received). You can even do group gifting through Zola. It is a great site for couples who might not have a ton of space or storage and are looking to register for something different and unique or just straight up cash.
